The Dynamic Duo: How Athletic Trainers Became Spiritual Leaders at Warren High School

Ministry at Dawn: Finding God in the Early Morning Hours

Gospel Imperative

Discipleship happens on God's schedule, not ours. As Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the LORD. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'"

When Ministry Doesn't Follow Office Hours

Some of the most powerful discipleship relationships flourish in the most inconvenient time slots. For me, that means embracing the early morning hours at Warren High School, where a remarkable transformation has taken place among the school's athletic training staff.

What began as early morning Bible studies with two of the school’s athletic trainers has evolved into something truly extraordinary. These two professionals, whom I affectionately call "the dynamic duo"—have grown from participants to leaders, taking ownership of their faith journey and multiplying its impact throughout the school.

They have poured right back as much as I have poured into them. This discipleship relationship began in November, meeting at 5:00 AM during football season before shifting to 7:00 AM when the season ended. Now, with spring football practice underway, our group is considering moving back to an earlier time slot to continue to prioritize their time in the Word and in community.

The most beautiful aspect of this relationship is watching these men step into leadership roles. They're leading our Bible study. Their progression exemplifies the ultimate aim of discipleship: empowering others to become equipped, who in turn will empower yet more, creating a cycle of multiplication that leads to lasting impact for God’s kingdom.

This ministry of presence in the early morning hours exemplifies FCA's commitment to meet people where they are—even if that means adapting to demanding athletic schedules. By being flexible and willing to show up consistently, I believe I have created space for God to work powerfully in the lives of these athletic trainers.

The impact extends beyond their personal growth. These athletic trainers have unique access to student-athletes during both triumphant and vulnerable moments. Their spiritual leadership creates ripple effects throughout the athletic program as they model authentic faith in the training room daily.

By supporting FCA's presence in schools like Warren High, you help foster these transformative relationships that often happen outside conventional ministry hours.
